THE Friends of East Grinstead Museum will be hosting a charity concert at Chequer Mead at 7.30pm on 15 November.
The popular Roger Hind Quartet with guest singers Ruth Fahie and Gary Wright will be performing Unforgettable, an evening of music and song from Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.

CLLR Danny Favor arranged for a quartet of talented musicians headed by Julian Spencer to perform live for members of the town’s Saturday Dementia Club at Glen Vue on 14 September.
Club members and staff enjoyed the song and dance session and hope that on-going fundraising for the Club will enable more sessions to take place.
“It was fantastic,” Danny said afterwards. “Everyone involved enjoyed it, and they were very grateful to the musicians involved for making it happen. We are hoping to generate further funds so that we can keep this and similar activities in place to help improve the lives of those affected by dementia, and their carers.”
Application forms for grants from the above charity are now available to residents of East Grinstead and Ashurst Wood who are aged 65 years and over, and can be obtained from:

HENRY Smith, was born in May 1548 in Wandsworth, south London, and was a salt merchant by trade. A successful businessman, he acquired land in various parts of England during his lifetime, and created a number of charitable trusts for the relief of the poor. Henry Smith died in 1628 leaving his Trustees the sum of £2,000.
The money left to the Trustees in Henry Smith’s Will formed the basic endowment of the original Henry Smith (Kensington Estate) Charity, so called because the Trustees purchased farm land in the parishes of Kensington, Chelsea and St Margaret’s Westminster.
The Charity’s capital endowment now consists of a substantial portfolio of stock market investments, property and investments in Hedge Funds, Private Equity and Venture Capital. Its grant making, which totals many millions of pounds each year, addresses a wide range of causes and extends throughout the whole of the UK.

Sounds of Simon, the nation’s favourite Simon and Garfunkel Tribute act, comes to Chequer Mead on 5 Oct, on the highly-acclaimed Old Friends Tour.
The show has delighted theatre audiences UK wide for the past three years with its note-perfect reproduction of the duo’s award-winning harmonies, as well as their much-publicised friction.
The two-hour show covers more than two dozen hits from four decades, including Mrs Robinson, Homeward Bound, The Sounds of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Adam Ellis and Ben Bowden, who play the duo on stage, have been described by music writers as ‘the world’s best Simon and Garfunkel tribute’ and their full band show as ‘a musical feast for anyone who loves the songs of Paul Simon’.
Ben was recently featured on BBC’s The One Show, performing as Paul Simon and talking about Paul’s visit to England in 1965. It was on this trip that Paul reputedly wrote Homeward Bound. This hit, along with many others, features in the show.
“It’s always a joy to bring the show to new audiences,” says Ben of their East Grinstead debut.
Adam Ellis, who plays Art Garfunkel, agreed. “This is a great show filled with some wonderful songs,” he said. “I love playing Artie on stage – his voice is just beautiful, and the harmonies are brilliant.”

COLIN Godley the grandson of Private Sidney Godley VC has paid a visit to East Court for an interview by BBC South East about his famous grandfather.
Colin Godley called the holder of the first Victoria Cross to be awarded to a private soldier in WWI “a hero” adding “but he was also my grandad, so he was already a hero to me”.
All those awarded a Victoria Cross in the First World War are to be remembered during next year’s centenary events with a specially commissioned plaque in the place of their birth, and Colin has already accepted an invitation from the Town Council to see his grandfather’s stone installed by the High Street War Memorial.
Town promotions officer Simon Kerr said he had enjoyed meeting Colin for the first time – as had all the BBC crew.
“It was lovely to see how enthusiastic they all were about Private Godley’s story and how keen they were to meet his grandson.”
On 23 August next year Colin will be in Mons, 100 years to the day on which his grandfather won his VC for defending a bridge and allowing his colleagues to escape.
Sidney survived his injuries and won the respect of his captors for his bravery. His connection with East Grinstead is celebrated with a blue memorial on East Court mansion.
THE Filipino British Nurses Extra Care Team of East Grinstead, under founder Cllr Danny Favor, held a free health screening session at Our Lady and St Peter’s church earlier this month.
Parishioners who had free checks of their blood pressure, glucose levels and BMI were also able to support fundraising for the town’s Dementia Saturday Respite Club.

EAST Grinstead’s two town centre wards are to be merged to avoid confusion next time the electorate goes to the polls.
At present the town centre is divided into two wards along the demarcation line of the A22 for Town Council elections, but is regarded as a single ward for the purposes of electing representatives to Mid Sussex District Council.
In future the two wards will be united as a single Town Ward for both Councils.
The boundaries between Imberhorne and Baldwins wards will also be redrawn so both Town and District Councils cover the same geographical areas.
RETURN of the Dinosaurs, an exhibition at the town museum which will run until 29 September, takes a look at prehistoric East Grinstead.
