Outdoor Services Assistant

Full time Monday – Friday 37 Hours per week

SCP 3-4 (£18,887 – £ 19,264 pa)

We have a vacancy for a hardworking, team player to join the Outdoor Services team.

The team are responsible for the maintenance of the Town Council’s land assets in respect of East Court Grounds, Mount Noddy Cemetery, Queens Road Cemetery, Turners Hill Recreation Ground and other land holdings.

This is a front line role, often working in the town or in public areas, so the ability to communicate with the public in a pleasant manner is as essential as a flexible approach and the willingness to work as part of a team and alone as necessary.

Main Duties:

  • Assisting with the delivery of services as agreed in the WSCC and MSDC partnership agreements such as grass cutting, hedge cutting, weed spraying, snow clearance, maintenance of street furniture and removal of graffiti and fly-posting.
  • Undertaking civic pride responsibilities such as clearing the High Street flower beds before new planting, watering hanging baskets, putting up banners and advanced warning signage of road closure and civic events
  • General ground maintenance and preparation of graves/garden of remembrance plots and internments.

Applicants for this position must have a can do attitude, be physically fit and want to be part of a team that represents the Council to the highest standards. The applicant needs to be willing to work in all weather, using their initiative and being mindful at all times to health and safety requirements for themselves and those around them.

Community Officer

Part time Monday – Friday 25-30 Hours per week (including some weekend work

SCP 5-17 £19,650-24,920 (pro rata)

This is an interesting and varied role which includes duties from overseeing the tourist information desk in the library through to supporting the delivery of the summer events programme with the Tourism and Community team.

This is very much a front-line role interacting with community groups and individuals at all levels, promoting East Grinstead in person and online, as a destination for many different purposes.

We are looking for someone that enjoys thinking creatively, using social media to promote events, and who has a genuine interest in making East Grinstead the best town to live, visit and work in.

Main Duties:

  • Use your high-level customer care skills to oversee the tourist information desk at the library, to respond to queries from the public and inform them about the local area, from bus routes to the history of the town.
  • As a team we will create, organise, deliver, and attend community events to support and promote the council and town, from litter picks, children’s activity days to East Court Live.
  • Design and create promotional material for town events such as leaflets, posters, website content and the council produced newsletter.
  • Use your strong social media skills to enhance the council’s reputation and promotion of events.
  • Build relationships within the community by working with schools, community groups and businesses to enhance the social and physical environment of East Grinstead.
