I am writing to advise you that the County Council, in collaboration with the Local Government Association (LGA), will be hosting an event for candidates considering standing for the County Council elections on 4 May 2017.

The event will take place on Monday 27 February 2017 between 6pm-8.45pm at County Hall, West Street, Chichester, PO19 1RQ. The programme for this event is attached (please note registration opens at 5.30pm).

The purpose of the event is to provide prospective candidates with information on the role of elected members and an opportunity to meet with senior officers and members of the Council.  There will also be a workshop session led by the LGA on how to be an effective councillor.

Places for this event are limited and those wishing to attend are strongly advised to register their place by 22^nd February.  You can do this online by going to the website below (which includes a map showing the location of County Hall):

Parking will be available on the County Hall site from 5.15pm onwards.

The Town Council staff and Members came together on Wednesday 1^st of February to say a fond farewell to the Community Service Manager Katrina Hamill. After working at the Town Council for 10 years, Katrina has decided to return to the Philippines.

She was presented with a picture of East Court surrounded by examples of the flowers in the gardens done by Head Gardener, Jenny Watson.

We are all be very sad to see her go, but wish her happiness with her new adventures.

IN a regular feature on the Town Council website, we will be remembering, on the anniversary of their deaths, the East Grinstead soldiers who died during WWI,  and who are named on the High Street War Memorial.

Died of wounds 20. 2.17. age 25. Son of William John and Emily Berry of 162, London Road, East Grinstead.

Born in East Grinstead and enlisted in Brighton.

Included on Brighton War Memorial. Buried Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension F.177

Joseph Harry TITE

Private G/28337 The Royal West Surrey Regiment. (15th Labour Company) (Salonikan Front)

Died of wounds 28. 2.17 Aged 37 Husband of Mrs. Martha Tite of 21, College Lane, East Grinstead.

Born in Willesden, Middlesex and enlisted in East Grinstead. Formerly with the 13th Royal Sussex. (SD/3144)

Wilfred James WHITE

[In some references he is listed as William James] Private TF/260003 1/5th Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment. Pioneer Battalion, of the 48th Division.

Killed in action 26. 2.17. Aged 22. Son of Mr. and Mrs. White of 16, Glen View, East Grinstead. Husband of Harriett White (remarried) of 26, Glen View, East Grinstead.

Born and enlisted in East Grinstead.
