HOPES for the establishment of a wild flower garden by the Town Council and East Grinstead in Bloom on an area of waste ground on the corner of College Lane and the Lewes Road had appeared doomed when not a single bloom appeared after weeks of hot dry weather in the Spring.
But heavy downpours in July encouraged the dormant seeds and by August the corner was bright with summer flowers.
“We’d more or less resigned ourselves to trying again next year so its sudden growth was a delightful surprise,” said Council spokesman Keith Astley.
