Week’s respite for drivers as work on A22 gas mains finishes ahead of schedule

MAJOR gas works on the A22 London Road are on course to be finished next Monday giving drivers a week’s respite before the work starts on replacing water mains.

It means the traffic lights are set to be restored as normal on 6 July – temporarily easing disruption for traffic on the A22.

South East Water is scheduled to starts work on installing its new water main in Imberhorne Lane on Monday, 13 July.

A one-way road closure will be in operation for Imberhorne Lane between Thursday, 23 Julyand Friday, 4 September while this work is done.

A diversion route will be in place via London Road, Beeching Way, Brooklands Way, Turners Hill Road and back onto Imberhorne Lane.

South East Water is running a one-way system so motorists can travel from Imberhorne Lane on to London Road.

Motorists wishing to reach Imberhorne Lane from London Road will need to follow the diversion.

Temporary traffic lights will return to London Road in mid to late August when the new pipe is installed.

South East Water’s work is expected to take seven weeks to complete.
