 Parkinson’s Awareness

Care UK’s East Grinstead care home, Mill View, is hosting a free event on Tuesday 31st May to help local people find out more about Parkinson’s and to provide support for families affected by the condition.

From 2pm to 4pm, the team at the home on Sunnyside Close will be joined by Parkinson’s advisor Jonathan Smith, from Eastern and Coastal west Sussex. Jonathan will be on hand to offer helpful guidance and practical tips for improving the everyday lives of people living with Parkinson’s. He will also signpost attendees to further information on local support groups and specialist Parkinson’s services in East Grinstead and the surrounding areas.

There will be a question and answer session to give everyone the opportunity to raise individual concerns and share experiences, and attendees will also be able to meet the team at Mill View and take a closer look at the care home.

Home manager at Mill View, Cindy Luscombe, explained why she is opening the doors to the care home for the Parkinson’s Awareness event: “According to Parkinson’s UK, someone in the UK is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease every hour, and more than 120,000 people are currently living with the condition. Most people diagnosed are over the age of 50, and one in every 500 will develop the condition in later life.

Across Care UK, we care for a number of residents living with Parkinson’s and we have seen how the experiences of individuals and their families can be transformed simply by having access to the right information and support.  We are therefore looking forward to welcoming local people along to Mill View to the forthcoming event and we are sure those who are able to join us will benefit from the specialist nurses’ knowledge and compassionate, expert advice.”

Mill View is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
