ACOUSTIC Sussex presents Martin Simpson (support Emily Slade) on 1 April. Widely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world, there is no-one who has more successfully combined the diverse elements of British and Afro-American music than Martin Simpson. Lee James Associates present Groovy Gala and the Amazing Superbus at a matinee performance on 6 April. Join Groovy Gazza’s gang and follow them for an adventure on the Amazing SuperBus. Lord Bling has come to earth to collect pets for his robot master and has taken Woofy the dog to his planet. Join Groovy Gazza and Professor Potty in their quest to rescue Woofy with the help of Princess Sparkle. Ariel Young Actors (Part of Ariel Company Theatre) are proud to present The Amazing Chocolate Factory at two performances on 9 April based on Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After their successful productions of Wind in the Willows and Les Misérables (returning here in November) Ariel Young Actors bring this classic story up to date with songs including We Will Rock You, Spamalot, and hits from the Beatles. A Fashion Show from Private Collection will take place on 13 April. The team from everyone’s favourite boutique returns to Chequer Mead with the latest looks for Spring and Summer - and a free glass of wine. Discounted clothing available on the night, and tickets (advance bookings only) will be exchanged for a money-off voucher. A pre-show bistro menu will be available to Fashion Show guests ONLY - bookings must be made in advance with Cuisine Studio 01342 324860 after securing a fashion show ticket. Bullfrog Productions presents Beauty and The Beast at two performances on 16 April. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, this is the musical stage adaptation of Disney’s hit animated feature film from 1991. Once again Bullfrog Productions utilises the talents of its professional company alongside the Bullfrog Youth Group who rehearse weekly at Chequer Mead. Magnificent 7 Productions present Hooked on Country - Sold on Sixties 2010 tour on 19 April. The seven artists in this fast-moving fun-packed show are among the finest in British Country Music in a show featuring a roller coaster ride of memories from the sixties. Mark Summers Management presents The Elvis Legacy on 20 April. Back by popular demand, the show features special guest Larry Geller from the USA, Elvis’s close friend and hairdresser, and a member of the Memphis Mafia. Larry will be meeting Elvis fans, signing autographs and talking about his time with The King.

Neil Sands Productions present Remember When on 21 April at 2.30pm. Making a welcome first visit, this is one of the country’s most popular nostalgia shows with an all-new 2010 production featuring magical musical memories from the 40s, 50s , 60s and 70s. 3 X Bands = Fun takes place on 23 April, and is the third annual benefit concert for Court Meadow special needs school, Cuckfield. Tickets £10 on the night/£8 in advance/concessions £5.

Chequer Mead Lunchtime Concert Series presents harpist Lizzie Peacock on 27 April at 1.30pm. Lizzie graduated from Royal Holloway University of London with a BMus (Hons) degree in Music, with a specialty in harp performance. Alongside her studies, she took on the role of principal harpist in both the Royal Holloway Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, performing in numerous concerts. Graeme Forsyth presents The New Foxtrot Serenaders Charity Concert on 30 April. The Serenaders are a very successful seven piece band who recreate the excitement of a bygone era. Well known to Chequer Mead audiences, their varied repertoire includes Trad Jazz, Ragtime, Charleston and timeless melodies of the 1920s, 30s and 40s including those of Bessie Smith, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Jelly Roll Morton, Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Irving Berlin. Tickets for the concert, which is in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice, cost £16/concessions £14/family ticket £48/one in ten free - programme included.
