Public Payphone Saved « News Index « News
THE public pay phone by the car park in De La Warr Road has been saved thanks to the intervention of East Grinstead Town Council.
The BT box was one of six town pay phones destined for removal on the grounds of unprofitability until the Town Council wrote to raise substantive objections on grounds that it was “significantly well used” and on a convenient site close to areas of entertainment and two car parks, which would attract visitors without mobile phones.
As a result BT has now rescinded its abolition order and promised to let the Council know if the pay phone comes under review in the future.
