The Town Council consists of 18 councillors who represent 6 wards. Each year the council elects from their number a Town Mayor.
The Council conducts its business through four programme committees:
- Finance and General Purposes
- Leisure and Tourism
- Public Services
- Planning
The Planning Committee meets on alternate weeks. Other Committees and Full Council meet six times a year. See the diary of meetings for more information.
The Council fulfills a positive role at the heart of the Community. It is represented by individual members, who are elected annually on a significant number of outside groups and organisations.
Councillor Surgery Sessions
Town, District and County Councillors for East Grinstead hold regular surgery sessions in East Grinstead Library on some Saturday mornings from 10 – noon. These are particularly useful for those who work away from the town and do not have the opportunity during the week to make contact with local Councillors on issues of importance to them. Local Liberal Democrat councillors hold their morning surgeries on the first and third Saturdays of each month and local Conservative councillors hold their morning surgeries on the last Saturday of each month, from 10am to 12 noon.
