IN a regular feature on the Town Council website, we will be remembering, on the anniversary of their deaths, the East Grinstead soldiers who died during WWI,  and who are named on the High Street War Memorial.

Private G/16798 7th Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment. 12th Division.

Killed in action 5. 4.18. Aged 32. Son of Henry and Eliza Banger. Husband of Lily Banger of 8, Durkins Road, East Grinstead.

Born in Battersea and enlisted in Horsham.

Died 22. 4.18. Aged 25 Husband of Mr. F.K.Beadle of 14, Chequer Road, East Grinstead.

Commemorated on The Hollybrook Memorial Southampton.

Gilbert T. F. DEACON

Private 14114 1st Battalion, The Machine Gun Corps (Infantry).

Killed in action 1. 4.18. Aged 21.

Son of Frederick and Caroline Deacon of Chelwood Gate near East Grinstead.

Frederick George DILLEY

Private TF/243402 2nd Battalion, The Hampshire Regiment. 29th Division.

Killed in action in Belgium 11. 4.18.

Son of Mr. Dilley and Mrs. Charlotte Dilley of 45, Adelaide Road, Shepherds Bush, West London.

Henry HEASMAN

Private 46212 19th Battalion, The Lancashire Fusiliers. Pioneer Battalion, of the 49th Division.

Killed in action 25. 4.18.age 42.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Heasman of 11, Pheonix Terrace, Ashurstwood. Husband of Mrs. Harriett Humphrey of 1, Sunrise Villa, Queens Road, Crowborough. Formerly with the Royal Engineers.

Born in Forest Row and enlisted in East Grinstead Included on Ashurstwood Parish War Memorial.

Died of wounds 10. 4.18. Husband of Mrs. J. Parks of Oast Cottage, Hackenden.

Born in Herstmonceux and enlisted in East Grinstead. Formerly with the Royal Army Service Corps.

Arthur Thomas WHITE

Son of George Albert and Edith Florence Wright of 19, Old Road, East Grinstead. Born in Thornton Heath, Surrey and enlisted in Chichester.
